Grafton Man Wins $1 Million After Taking a Chance on His Lucky Number
A simple trip to the store turned into a $1 million payday for a Grafton man who bought an Ohio Lottery scratch-off ticket on a whim.
The winner, who has not been publicly identified, purchased the lucky $20 $1,000,000 Stacked ticket at Butternut Food Mart, 34885 Lorain Road in North Ridgeville.
Interestingly, he doesn't usually play this particular scratch-off game. But the store owner told him the ticket was No. 13 — his lucky number. He decided to give it a shot, and that choice paid off in a huge way.
When he discovered the ticket was worth $1 million, he said he was “literally in shock.”
According to the Ohio Lottery, he stood there for a moment before showing the ticket to the store owner. He then folded it in half and headed home.
The Best Part? Telling His Wife
The winner said sharing the news with his wife was one of the most memorable parts of the experience.
He called her and said he had something to show her, but he wouldn't tell her what it was. When he got home, he handed her the winning ticket.
She looked at it, paused, and then quickly looked up at him.
“Is this yours?” she asked.
His response was perfect: “No, it’s OURS.”
He’s Choosing to Save the Money
Rather than taking the entire prize as a lump sum, the winner chose the annuity option.
That means he'll receive $40,000 a year for 25 years, totaling $1 million.
The couple isn't planning any extravagant spending spree, either. They said their intention is to save the winnings.
