Planning a summer night adventure? Now’s the time to enter for a chance to see the glowing fireflies at Grandfather Mountain this June.

For a short time each year, the mountain lights up with incredible glowing insects, including synchronous fireflies, blue ghost fireflies, and even glowworms. Researchers say these rare bugs only appear for a few weeks, making the experience extra special.

Important Dates

  • Grandfather Glows events: June 16, June 18, and June 20
  • Rain dates will move to the following day if needed.

The ticket lottery is open now, but entries close on Thursday. It costs $5 per entry, and that amount will go toward your ticket purchase if you win.

Ticket Prices

  • Adults: $50
  • Children ages 3–12: $40
  • Kids under 3: Free

Winners from the first round will be notified on Friday, while a second group of winners will hear back next Wednesday.

With glowing forests, rare firefly species, and limited viewing nights, this is one of the coolest nature experiences of the summer.
