Planning a summer night adventure? Now’s the time to enter for a chance to see the glowing fireflies at Grandfather Mountain this June.
For a short time each year, the mountain lights up with incredible glowing insects, including synchronous fireflies, blue ghost fireflies, and even glowworms. Researchers say these rare bugs only appear for a few weeks, making the experience extra special.
Important Dates

- Rain dates will move to the following day if needed.
The ticket lottery is open now, but entries close on Thursday. It costs $5 per entry, and that amount will go toward your ticket purchase if you win.
Ticket Prices
- Adults: $50
- Children ages 3–12: $40
- Kids under 3: Free
Winners from the first round will be notified on Friday, while a second group of winners will hear back next Wednesday.
