A Midlands woman is celebrating an unexpected $30,000 lottery win after taking a chance on a $2 scratch-off ticket. According to South Carolina Education Lottery officials, the winner said the experience still feels like a dream.
“I can’t believe it,” she told lottery officials.
The woman initially had no plans to play the lottery. However, she eventually decided to spend $4 on two scratch-off tickets at Shamrock Corner on Shakespeare Road in Columbia, South Carolina.
Her decision paid off almost immediately. She won $30,000 on the very first ticket she scratched.
“I said it’s just $2, so it won’t break me,” she explained.
The winning ticket came from the 7-11-21 Tripler game, which gave her a shot at a top prize with odds of 1 in 600,000. After her win, two top prizes remained available in the game.
As for what she plans to do with the money, the lucky winner is still deciding how to make the most of her unexpected windfall.
Meanwhile, Shamrock Corner also benefited from the winning ticket. The Columbia store received a $300 commission for selling the ticket that brought its customer a $30,000 prize.
