Pontypool’s lottery winners are bringing some real holiday joy this season—and they’re doing it in the most hands-on way possible. Instead of sitting back and enjoying their own big wins, several lucky EuroMillions Millionaire Raffle winners rolled up their sleeves to support the ToyBox Project in Bedwas, Caerphilly.
The ToyBox Project has become a lifeline for families in South Wales. Last year alone, the volunteer-run group helped more than 9,000 children, offering both new and pre-loved toys. They also run a free shop and partner with local schools to make sure toys reach the kids who need them most.
This year, the demand is even bigger. Volunteers expect to brighten Christmas for more than 1,500 children, from newborns to teens. With numbers like that, the extra help couldn’t have come at a better time.
A Team Effort With Heart
Stephen and Keri Chick—who pocketed a life-changing £1 million win—joined other National Lottery winners to sort, pack, and wrap mountains of toys. Their goal was simple: spread a little magic.
Fellow winner and mom of five, Ceri-Ann Roscoe-Roberts, shared just how meaningful the project is:
“As a mum, I know how stressful Christmas can be—especially before our amazing win. When we heard about ToyBox, Paul and I didn’t even hesitate. We wanted to help.”
Why This Matters
A few reasons this project stands out:
-
Keeps Christmas magical for kids who might otherwise have little or nothing to unwrap
-
Gives pre-loved toys new life, reducing waste
-
Supports families year-round, not just during the holidays
Swansea winners Darren and Gemma Burfitt summed it up perfectly:
“For all kids—ours included—Christmas is magical. ToyBox helps keep that magic alive, and helping out today has been both fantastic and humbling.”
Volunteers Making It Happen
ToyBox Project representative James Morgan said the burst of energy from the National Lottery winners made a huge difference.
“We’re run entirely by volunteers,” he explained. “This time of year is tough, and their help has set us up for the Christmas rush. Thanks to them, so many kids will wake up to a magical surprise.”
The project has also received £144,800 from the National Lottery Community Fund, giving them even more support to continue their work throughout the year.
In the end, it’s not just about gifts—it’s about community, kindness, and making sure every child feels a little sparkle of Christmas magic.
