Talk about a happy accident! A Midlands woman walked into a Piggly Wiggly in Columbia, South Carolina, asked for one scratch-off ticket—but got handed a different one instead. And that “mistake” turned out to be worth $500,000.
According to the South Carolina Education Lottery, the lucky shopper bought the Feeling Lucky? scratch-off ticket at the Piggly Wiggly located at 6325 North Main St., right off Exit 71 on I-20. Even though it wasn’t the game she originally pointed to, she decided to keep it anyway.
“I just kept it,” the winner said. “It was a blessing that has changed my life.”
That $10 ticket beat incredible 1-in-1.5 million odds, scoring her the game’s grand prize. And get this—there are still two more $500,000 top prizes waiting to be claimed.
The store that sold the winning ticket also scored some good fortune of its own—earning a $5,000 commission from the sale.
While the winner’s spending plans haven’t been revealed, she can enjoy her windfall in peace. South Carolina is one of only 11 U.S. states that lets lottery winners stay completely anonymous, joining states like Georgia, Texas, and Virginia.
Sometimes, the wrong ticket is the right one. This lucky Columbia shopper just proved it—turning an everyday grocery run into a half-million-dollar payday.
