A man accused of stealing hundreds of dollars' worth of Maryland Lottery tickets from a gas station in Takoma Park is still on the run after reportedly escaping into Washington, D.C.
The incident happened shortly after 12:00 p.m. on July 28, 2026, at a Marathon gas station located on the 6400 block of New Hampshire Avenue.
According to police, a store employee told officers that the man grabbed several Maryland Lottery tickets and refused to pay for them. Before police arrived, the employee allegedly locked the suspect inside the store to keep him from leaving.

- During the investigation, he suddenly took off on foot.
- He crossed into Washington, D.C., before officers could catch him.
Because the suspect fled across the city line, the Takoma Park Police Department alerted the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) to help locate him.
