Maryland Trucker Wins $50K on $5 Jurassic Park Scratch-Off Ticket

A Maryland truck driver got a huge surprise at the end of a long day on the road. The Elkridge man, who often buys a scratch-off ticket at the start and finish of his shifts, picked up a $5 Jurassic Park ticket at a 7-Eleven in Hampstead. Little did he know, it was about to change his day—he instantly won $50,000.

“I pinched myself and asked, ‘Am I dreaming?’” the winner told Maryland Lottery officials. “It’s one of the greatest days in my life!”

The timing couldn’t be better. His wife is in the midst of starting a new business, and the winnings will help cover materials and inventory costs. Despite the windfall, the trucker says his day-to-day life won’t change much. “I’m going to go back to work every day and not be behind on my bills. That’s it,” he said.

True to form, he plans to keep playing lottery games but doesn’t intend “to go crazy” buying tickets. For locals, Hampstead is about a 30-mile drive northwest from Baltimore—making it a small-town stop with a big payoff.

Maryland Lottery officials shared the story in an Oct. 8 news release, highlighting the thrill of instant scratch-off wins and how they can come at just the right moment.
