Sometimes, a little boredom can turn into big luck. That’s exactly what happened to a Maryland woman who found herself waiting at the doctor’s office. “I got bored waiting at the doctor's,” she told Maryland Lottery officials on Oct. 9.
With some time to kill, she stopped by a Hagerstown liquor store—about an 80-mile drive northwest of Baltimore—and picked up a $20 All About Cash scratch-off ticket. What happened next was pure excitement. As she started scratching, she realized, “all of my numbers matched up with winning numbers.”
Her ticket revealed prizes of $1,000, $5,000, and a few smaller wins—but the suspense was almost too much to handle. “I had to stop and went over to check the machine,” she said. When she scanned her ticket, the moment she had been waiting for arrived: a $50,000 win.
“I cried after I won,” she admitted. “I was very happy.” The winner told lottery officials that she plans to use her winnings to get her finances in order.
