A Massachusetts lottery player hit a massive $1 million payday after spending just $5 on a winning scratch ticket near Boston.
The lucky ticket came from the “$1,000,000 Go for the Green” game and was sold at 350 Food Mart in Somerville. The winner claimed the prize on Tuesday, according to the Massachusetts State Lottery.
The odds of landing the game’s $1 million top prize are 1 in 3,024,000. Five million-dollar tickets were released, and two have now been claimed, leaving three still out there.
Massachusetts saw plenty of other big wins, too. On Monday, 776 prizes worth at least $600 were won or claimed across the state, including:
- 43 prizes in Boston
- 14 prizes in Springfield
- 17 prizes in Worcester
The Massachusetts State Lottery publishes a daily list of winning tickets valued at more than $600.
So far this year, the state’s biggest claimed lottery prize has been a jaw-dropping $25 million. That winning “$25,000,000 Mega Money” ticket was sold at a Cumberland Farms gas station in Turners Falls, one of Montague’s five villages.
For now, the $1 million win is another reminder that sometimes a $5 ticket can turn into a life-changing prize.
