Massachusetts Woman Wins $2 Million Powerball Prize
A Massachusetts woman has come forward as the winner of a $2 million Powerball prize, following the same drawing that produced a massive $1.04 billion jackpot winner in Illinois.
Almasa Cajic of Lynn bought the lucky ticket at Robinson News Convenience on Eastern Avenue in Malden. The retailer will also get a $20,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
Cajic matched all five white-ball numbers in the drawing, earning a $1 million prize. She had added the Power Play option for $1, which doubled her winnings to $2 million.
Here’s what happened:
- Winner: Almasa Cajic of Lynn
- Prize: $2 million before taxes
- Winning store: Robinson News Convenience in Malden
- Retailer bonus: $20,000
Cajic collected her prize on Thursday at Massachusetts State Lottery headquarters in Dorchester. She told lottery officials that she plans to use the money to buy a home in Massachusetts and another in Bosnia.
The Powerball jackpot that night reached an estimated $1.04 billion, ranking as the eighth-largest jackpot in the game's history. Along with the Massachusetts winner, $1 million winning tickets were sold in Arizona, California, Florida and North Carolina.
To win the Powerball jackpot, players must match all five white balls plus the red Powerball. Cajic came just short of the jackpot but turned her $1 million prize into an impressive $2 million payday with Power Play.
