Where Have the Most Jackpot Winners Been Sold?

Some states have been much luckier than others over the years.

• New York has produced the most Mega Millions jackpot-winning tickets since 2002 with 42 winners.
• California ranks second with 37 jackpot-winning tickets and has become known for producing some of the game's biggest prizes.

In fact, five of the 20 largest Mega Millions jackpots ever won came from tickets sold in California, including the $1.269 billion prize claimed in December 2024.

Not every state has celebrated a Mega Millions jackpot winner.

Only one Mega Millions jackpot has ever been sold in these states:

• Minnesota
• Wisconsin

Among them, Idaho has gone the longest without another jackpot winner, with its only winning ticket sold in 2011. North Carolina is also in a long dry spell, having not produced a jackpot winner since 2011.
