Michigan Man Wins $2 Million on Big Money Pay Day Scratch-Off

A Wayne County man is celebrating a $2 million Michigan Lottery win after buying a Big Money Pay Day scratch-off ticket in Detroit.

The 37-year-old winner, who chose to remain anonymous, purchased the $20 ticket at Safeway Market on Dix Street. He said he scratched it in his car late at night before heading home—and was stunned by what he saw.

“When I saw I’d won $2 million, I was in complete shock!”

He recently visited the Michigan Lottery’s Lansing office to claim his prize. Instead of taking the full amount over time, he chose a one-time lump-sum payment of about $1.3 million.

What he plans to do with the money

The winner said he regularly buys scratch-off tickets and has picked up smaller prizes before, but never expected to land a life-changing jackpot.

He plans to use the money wisely:

  • Pay off all of his debt
  • Save the remaining money
  • Keep it available for whatever the future brings

He described the unexpected win as exciting and a blessing.

Big Money Pay Day still has prizes available

The Big Money Pay Day instant game launched in July, and Michigan Lottery officials say players have already won more than $21 million in prizes.

Each $20 ticket offers prizes ranging from $20 to the top $2 million prize. More than $79 million in prizes reportedly remain, including:

  • 2 prizes worth $2 million
  • 12 prizes worth $10,000
  • 183 prizes worth $2,000

This latest win adds to a string of major Michigan Lottery prizes. In September, an Oakland County player won $1 million in the Ruby 7s game. A Macomb County man also scored $1 million in Cash Train in August.

Earlier in June, two Michigan players each walked away with $1 million lottery prizes.
