Michigan Man Wins $2 Million on Scratch-Off After Simple Gas Station Stop

A quick stop for gas turned into a life-changing moment for a 45-year-old man from Kent County after he scored an incredible $2 million win from a Michigan Lottery scratch-off ticket.

The lucky winner said he usually sticks to smaller games and doesn’t often buy the more expensive tickets. During a stop at a gas station, he picked up a simple $2 Blackjack ticket while paying for his fuel and scratched it while waiting by the pump.

That small ticket ended up winning him $20. When he went back inside to cash it in, he almost bought two $10 tickets instead. But one ticket in particular grabbed his attention — the $2,000,000 Bonus Scratch Multiplier game.

That last-minute decision changed everything.

“I scratched the ticket when I got back in my car and went into complete shock,” the winner shared. “I still don’t think it will fully sink in until I actually cash the check.”

A Few Highlights From the Big Win

  • The winning ticket was purchased at Clyde Park Fuel in Grand Rapids
  • He chose a one-time lump sum payment of about $1.3 million
  • Plans for the money include:
    • Buying a new house
    • Taking a vacation
    • Saving the rest for the future

The Michigan Lottery also revealed that players have already won more than $21 million playing the $2,000,000 Bonus Scratch Multiplier game since it launched in February.

For this Kent County man, a routine gas station stop became a moment he’ll never forget.
