Mount Pleasant Store Sells Another Big Winner as Lansing Woman Claims $25,000 a Year for Life

If you’re feeling lucky in Mid-Michigan, you might want to swing by Borders Corner Store in Mount Pleasant. Over the past few years, this little shop has turned into a serious hot spot for big lottery wins.

Most recently, in February, 67-year-old Kathy Forquer from Lansing hit it big after buying a Lucky for Life ticket there. And when we say big, we mean life-changing.

The morning after the February 10 drawing, Forquer checked her numbers and couldn’t believe what she saw. She matched all five white balls — 13, 18, 25, 27, and 30 — and instantly became a winner of $25,000 a year for life.

She later said it felt so unreal that she thought she might be having a heart attack.

“It feels surreal that I’m here claiming such a large prize. My heart feels like it’s beating out of my chest,” she shared.

Instead of taking the yearly payments, Forquer chose a $390,000 lump sum. Her plans?

  • 🚗 Buy a brand-new car

  • 💰 Save the rest for the future

She had been visiting her sister in Mount Pleasant when she decided to stop at Borders Corner Store on East Pickard Road. One quick purchase turned into a moment she’ll never forget.

And Here’s the Wild Part…

This isn’t the first time the store has made headlines. In fact, this was its fourth prize of more than $100,000 in just three years. Other big wins sold there include:

  • $1 million from the Black & Gold instant game claimed in January 2023

  • $25,000 a year for life won in February 2024

  • $115,000 Fantasy 5 jackpot claimed in April 2024

That’s a serious lucky streak.

Forquer also holds a special distinction — she’s the final $25,000 a year Lucky for Life winner in Michigan. The Michigan Lottery officially replaced the game on February 22 with the new multistate Millionaire for Life game.
