Ontario Man Wins $15 Million Lotto Max Jackpot and Heads Into Retirement

A regular Tuesday morning turned into a $15 million dream come true for one Ontario man — and now, retirement is calling his name.

St. George resident Raymond Gubbins is officially cashing in after winning the Lotto Max jackpot on January 20, 2026. The 62-year-old longtime player says the moment still feels unreal.

“I honestly thought I was dreaming,” Raymond shared while picking up his prize at the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) Prize Centre in Toronto. “It’s going to take a couple of months before this really sinks in.”

A Simple Morning… Then Boom 💥

Like always, Raymond woke up early, poured himself a coffee, and checked his ticket. He’s been playing Lotto Max for years, grabbing Quick Pick tickets every Tuesday and Friday.

But this time was different.

When he saw that every single number matched, he froze.

  • He didn’t even wake up his wife at first.

  • He quietly headed to a nearby supermarket to scan the ticket again.

  • Someone in line joked that a local had won big — and asked if it was him!

“It didn’t even feel real yet,” he said.

After confirming the win, Raymond snapped a photo of the validation screen and sent it to his wife. That’s when it finally started to hit.

From Grocery Aisles to Retirement Plans

Raymond works in the grocery industry and used to joke with coworkers all the time.

“They’d say, ‘See you tomorrow,’ and I’d tell them, ‘Not if I win the lottery!’”

Well… turns out he was speaking it into existence.

Now, instead of clocking in, he’s looking forward to a well-earned, relaxing retirement. No alarm clocks. No shifts. Just time to enjoy life.

The lucky ticket was purchased at an Esso on Beverly Street West in St. George.

And just like that, one routine coffee turned into a life-changing $15 million moment.
