OpenAI CEO Sam Altman: Apple's Vision Pro Ranks Second Among Game-Changing Tech

Written by Published

Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, has recently praised Apple's Vision Pro as a transformative technology, likening its significance to the debut of the iPhone in 2007. Altman expressed his admiration for Vision Pro in a post on X shortly after its release, with each unit priced at $3,500.

The Vision Pro, a mixed-reality headset, allows users to seamlessly interact with digital content integrated into their physical surroundings, controlled via intuitive eye and finger movements. Jordan Hart, a reporter for Business Insider, noted its potential to redefine user experiences, drawing parallels to the iPhone's impact over a decade ago.

Despite acknowledging the Vision Pro's groundbreaking features, Altman positioned it as the "second most impressive" innovation in the past 17 years, suggesting that artificial intelligence (AI) holds the top spot. Altman has been a vocal advocate for AI's disruptive potential, particularly highlighting the achievements of OpenAI's ChatGPT, launched in November 2022.

ChatGPT has already demonstrated its influence across various industries, with Altman envisioning its evolution into a sophisticated personal assistant for professional use. However, despite his appreciation for its capabilities, Altman has expressed reservations about its branding. Responding to feedback on X, Altman echoed criticisms of Vision Pro's name and indicated dissatisfaction with ChatGPT's branding.

Altman's concerns about branding are not new; he previously discussed the topic during an interview with Trevor Noah on the podcast "What Now? with Trevor Noah" in December. During the interview, Altman commented on the ubiquity but lackluster nature of OpenAI's branding, suggesting potential room for improvement.
