Iowa Lottery Names Stephen Waymire as New Administrator

The Iowa Lottery is getting a new leader. On Tuesday, Governor Kim Reynolds announced that Stephen Waymire has been appointed as the new administrator of the Iowa Lottery, which operates under the Iowa Department of Revenue.

Waymire is no stranger to the organization. He has been part of the Iowa Lottery’s executive leadership team since 2022 and brings 30 years of law enforcement experience from the Des Moines Police Department.

Governor Reynolds praised Waymire’s leadership and experience, saying his background in both law enforcement and lottery operations makes him well-qualified for the position. She added that his dedication to public service and accountability will help strengthen the Iowa Lottery and support its continued success.

Dana Wingert, chair of the Iowa Lottery Commission, also expressed strong confidence in the appointment. Wingert said Waymire has consistently demonstrated outstanding leadership throughout his career, including his years overseeing security for the Iowa Lottery.

Waymire takes over the position following the departure of former Iowa Lottery CEO Matt Strawn, who stepped down in May and is now serving as president and CEO of Strategic America, a marketing and communications firm based in West Des Moines.
