Sullivan County Man Wins $1 Million Powerball Prize
Monticello resident Walberto Zapata, Jr. is living the dream after hitting the $1 million second prize in the Powerball drawing on September 6, 2025.
Zapata matched the first five numbers—11, 23, 44, 61, 62—plus the Powerball 17, landing the life-changing win. He chose the one-time lump sum payment of $651,000 after taxes.
He bought his lucky ticket at ShopRite, 46 Thompson Square in Monticello, a town about 82 miles south of Albany.
Powerball excitement continues across New York, and the game remains hugely popular:

-
$15.4 million in Lottery Aid to Education funds went to Sullivan County school districts
-
The New York Lottery contributed $3.6 billion to public schools statewide during the same period
