TikTok Trend Leads Detroit Man to $500K Lottery Jackpot

A Detroit man just turned a viral TikTok habit into a half-million-dollar surprise.

Grosjieon Moore, 63, says he started watching short clips of people scoring big lottery wins online—and while he figured it would never happen to him, life had other plans.

“I saw those TikTok videos of people scratching tickets and winning big,” he shared. “I honestly thought that kind of luck wasn’t for me.”

A few days later, he and his wife picked up a scratch-off ticket together—and that’s when everything flipped. While scratching, his wife suddenly called out that they had a winner. At first, they believed it was $50,000. But the real shock came moments later: the ticket was actually worth $500,000.

The winning ticket came from New Quick Stop Market on West Grand River Avenue in Detroit. Moore later claimed his prize at Michigan Lottery headquarters and says he plans to save the money.

The win came from the $500,000 Bonus Scratch Multiplier game, a $5 ticket launched in February that offers prizes ranging from $5 all the way up to the top $500,000 jackpot.

And Moore isn’t alone in chasing luck—Michigan Lottery officials say players have already collected over $6 million in winnings from the game, with more than $23 million still up for grabs, including multiple big-ticket prizes still waiting to be claimed.
