Which UK Postcodes Win the Most in People’s Postcode Lottery?

For many people, hitting the lottery jackpot sounds almost impossible — like getting struck by lightning while riding a unicorn. The odds of winning the main Lotto jackpot are a jaw-dropping 1 in 45 million, and even winning any prize at all is only about 1 in 9.3.

But the People’s Postcode Lottery offers much better chances for players. While the jackpots may not be as massive, every ticket has a 1 in 4 chance of winning, making it a lot more appealing for everyday players.

Even the bigger prizes — including Postcode Millions, Millionaire Street, and the £250,000 jackpot — come with odds of around 1 in 250,000, which feels far more realistic compared to traditional lotteries.

Which UK Areas Are Winning the Most?

With more than 71% of the UK’s 1.6 million postcodes now taking part, some areas are seeing wins pile up faster than others.

According to analysis from lottery.co.uk, Birmingham’s “B” postcode has been the biggest winner overall since January 2011, collecting an incredible 1,595 wins.

Here are the top-performing postcode areas:

  • Birmingham (“B”) – 1,595 wins
  • Sheffield (“S”) – 1,514 wins
  • Manchester (“M”) – 1,333 wins
  • Newcastle upon Tyne (“NE”) – 1,217 wins
  • Nottingham (“NG”) – 1,177 wins

Other strong performers include Glasgow, Cardiff, Peterborough, Portsmouth, and Bristol.

Bigger Cities Naturally Have More Winners

There’s an important detail behind these numbers. Many of the top postcode areas cover large, heavily populated cities, meaning there are naturally more players buying tickets there.

When researchers looked at broader UK regions instead, the rankings shifted quite a bit.

Luckiest UK Regions Since February 2024

North West England came out on top with the highest number of wins over the last two years.

Top Regions:

  • North West England — 1,756 wins (13.5%)
  • South East England — 1,663 wins (12.8%)
  • Yorkshire and the Humber — 1,348 wins (10.3%)
  • South West England — 1,291 wins
  • East of England — 1,239 wins

Meanwhile, London ranked seventh overall with 1,138 wins, making up 8.7% of all national wins.

Matthew White, site manager at latestbettingoffers.co.uk, explained that success often comes down to participation levels as much as luck.

“Areas with more active players naturally appear more often in the results.”

The “Luckiest” Postcodes Per District

When experts adjusted the figures based on the number of districts within each postcode area, the results looked very different.

A previous study by Casino Deps found that Preston’s “PR” postcode was actually the luckiest on average, with 47.64 wins per postcode district.

Other standout areas included:

  • Warrington (“WA”) — 38.63 average wins
  • Blackpool (“FY”) — 37.38 average wins

At the opposite end, Kirkwall’s “KW” postcode area in the Orkney Islands ranked as the least lucky, averaging just 3.75 wins per district.
