Draft Drama: Titans Torn Between Tight End and Tackle

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers general manager Mark Dominik is stirring the pot with a bold prediction for the Tennessee Titans just days before the 2024 NFL draft. According to Dominik, if the Titans are faced with choosing between Georgia tight end Brock Bowers and Notre Dame left tackle Joe Alt at the seventh spot, they will opt for Bowers, leaving the much-needed left tackle spot open. "My dark horse is Brock Bowers," Dominik revealed to Jim Wyatt of Titans Online. "If he's available, I think he's going to go over the tackle for the Titans."

Contrary to Dominik's view, he doesn't see a wide receiver as the Titans' likely choice, suggesting they would lean towards the tackle. "If it's down to tackle and receiver, then I think they'll take the tackle," he explained. "I think the receiver class is deep enough where you could go to Round 2, especially with what they have done at receiver with (Calvin) Ridley and (DeAndre) Hopkins, and (Treylon) Burks. I just don't think that is going to be the fit that they're looking for."

Speaking of Burks, it's best to dismiss any notion of him as a solution for the Titans at this point, unless he manages to prove otherwise in the future.

While Dominik sees Bowers as a promising player, he believes the Titans would be making a mistake by selecting him at No. 7, particularly if it means passing on Alt or one of the top-three receivers. In his view, the only scenario where Bowers would make sense is after a trade back. On the other hand, I'm inclined to disagree with Dominik regarding receivers. I think one of the top three could sway the Titans away from Alt, given the depth of the tackle class. Nonetheless, I still believe Alt should be the Titans' pick regardless of the circumstances.
