Yemen's Houthis Escalate Tensions: Target Oil Tanker and Down US Drone

Yemen’s Houthis are making headlines again, showing their defiance by targeting an oil tanker and downing a US MQ-9 Reaper drone in response to Israel’s actions in Gaza. In a bold move, they aimed naval missiles at the "British oil ship Andromeda Star" in the Red Sea, hitting it directly. The US military confirmed the attack, noting that the vessel sustained minor damage but is continuing its voyage, with no injuries reported.

Adding to their display of power, the Houthis shot down a US MQ-9 Reaper drone in Yemeni airspace, showing their capability to counter hostile missions. This is not the first time they've taken down US drones, having previously done so in November and February.

The Houthi's actions are not limited to maritime targets; they have also launched attacks on ships and drones. They targeted an "Israeli ship MSC Darwin" in the Gulf of Aden and launched missiles and drones at the southern Israeli port city of Eilat. The group has also attacked the US-flagged Maersk Yorktown and the Israeli-linked ship MSC Veracruz, prompting defensive measures from US and UK warships.

Despite a recent decrease in attacks, the group's leader, Abdel-Malik al-Houthi, has assured supporters that more attacks are on the horizon. He emphasized that their military capabilities remain strong and that they are expanding their targets to ships in the Indian Ocean.

The Houthis' actions have not gone unnoticed, with people in their controlled areas protesting in solidarity with Palestinians and against Israel and its allies. The attacks have disrupted global trade and affected traffic at Israel’s Eilat port, adding to the tension in the region.
