Drake Bell Speaks Out: Criticizing Nickelodeon's Response

Written by Published

Drake Bell recently opened up in his first interview since the release of the “Quiet on Set” documentary series, shedding light on Nickelodeon's response to his allegations. The former “Drake & Josh” star criticized the network for what he described as a "pretty empty" reaction after he spoke out about alleged sexual abuse by Brian Peck, a former dialogue coach on Nickelodeon shows like “All That” and “The Amanda Show,” when Bell was a child actor there.

Peck faced legal repercussions for his actions, with a 2003 arrest and subsequent sentencing to 16 months in prison and registration as a sex offender after pleading no contest to child sexual abuse charges in 2004. In response to Bell's allegations, Nickelodeon expressed dismay and support for his bravery in coming forward, stating they investigate all formal complaints to ensure a safe and professional workplace.

Despite this, Bell expressed skepticism about Nickelodeon's response, calling it a "well-tailored" statement likely crafted by legal advisors. He highlighted the network's continued airing of his shows and his personal responsibility for therapy costs, suggesting that true care would involve more than just words on a page.

During the interview on the “Sarah Fraser Show” podcast, Bell revealed that his father, Joe Bell, who is featured in “Quiet on Set,” had raised concerns about adult behavior towards minors to Nickelodeon executives in the past. However, he claimed they dismissed his father's concerns, suggesting a lack of thorough investigation or understanding of the seriousness of the situation.

In Bell's view, Nickelodeon's response fell short of genuine concern, indicating a disconnect between their statements and actions.
