The Green Bay Packers recently rolled out the green and gold carpet for Missouri safety Jaylon Carlies, hosting him on one of their coveted top 30 visits leading up to the 2024 NFL draft. This meet and greet is a big deal, giving teams a chance to size up potential draft picks before the big day.
Carlies, standing at 6-2 and weighing 227 pounds, brings an impressive resume from his time at Missouri. With stats like 221 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, 3.0 sacks, 17 pass breakups, and nine interceptions over 48 games and 40 starts, he's a force to be reckoned with on the field. Not to mention, he's got a knack for making big plays, with 60 or more tackles and multiple interceptions in three consecutive seasons.
During the combine, Carlies blazed through the 40-yard dash in a speedy 4.50 seconds, leaped an impressive 32.5" in the vertical, soared 10-5 in the broad jump, and pumped out 20 reps on the bench press. But wait, there's more! At the Missouri pro day, he upped his game with a 34.5" vertical, 22 reps on the bench, a 4.46-second short shuttle, and a 7.03-second three-cone drill. His Relative Athletic Score is a stellar 9.08 out of 10.0, showcasing his athleticism and potential at the next level.
While some scouts suggest Carlies might be better suited for the off-ball linebacker position in the NFL, he's no stranger to versatility. With almost 500 career special teams snaps under his belt at Missouri, he's proven he's willing to do whatever it takes to contribute to the team's success.
Even though he's not a household name just yet, Carlies is making waves on the draft radar. Ranked as the No. 237 overall player on the big board and the No. 17 safety by Dane Brugler of The Athletic, he's projected to be a Day 3 steal. Plus, his participation in events like the East-West Shrine Bowl only adds to his appeal as a prospect with tons of potential.
