Jeremy Roach, the standout Duke transfer and arguable top point guard in the transfer portal, made waves by announcing his commitment to Baylor on Sunday. The 6-foot-2 Virginia native is set to take over lead guard duties for the Bears from day one, following the departure of RayJ Dennis due to eligibility constraints.
Roach's decision came after a quick turnaround in the transfer portal, with Baylor emerging as the clear favorite shortly after Roach entered. Despite interest from other top programs like Arkansas, St. John's, Kentucky, Villanova, and Syracuse, Scott Drew and the Bears ultimately won out.
Roach brings a wealth of experience to Baylor, having started 108 games over four seasons with the Blue Devils. His senior year saw him earn third-team All-ACC honors, capping off a successful collegiate career that began with him being named a McDonald's All American in the 2020 class.
His time at Duke was marked by steady improvement, culminating in a breakout junior season where he averaged 13.6 points and 3.1 assists. Roach's ability to perform under pressure was on full display during the 2021-22 campaign, as he led Duke to the Final Four with standout performances in key games.
During his senior year, Roach elevated his game to new heights, averaging 14.0 points and 3.3 assists while shooting an impressive 42.9% from 3-point range. He showed up in a big way during the NCAA tournament, scoring in double figures in all four games before Duke was eliminated by NC State in the Elite Eight.
Roach joins a talented Baylor squad that includes returning starters Jayden Nunn and Langston Love, along with additions like elite recruit V.J. Edgecombe and top-25 prospect Robert Wright III. The Bears have also positioned themselves well to land another top transfer in former Tennessee big man Jonas Aidoo, further bolstering their roster for the upcoming season.
