The Arena Football League is making some big moves! They're reportedly bringing in former Tennessee Titans head coach Jeff Fisher as their interim commissioner.
Here's the scoop: On Monday, the league voted out now-former commissioner Lee Hutton III, and Fisher is set to step into his shoes officially on Tuesday. This decision comes after a tough start to the league's revival, with four teams shutting down in the first season. Right now, 12 teams are still in action.
Fisher isn't a stranger to the league. He's actually part of the ownership group for the Nashville Katz, which gives him a solid connection and insight into the league's operations.
For those who might not know, Fisher had a notable NFL career. He was the head coach for the Tennessee Titans for a whopping 17 seasons, from 1994 to 2010. During that time, he led the team to a 142-120 record and even took them to their only Super Bowl appearance, where they faced off against the St. Louis Rams.
After his long stint with the Titans, Fisher took the helm of the Rams in 2012. He was there for five seasons, overseeing their move to Los Angeles, but didn't find the same level of success, ending with a 31-45-1 record.
Most recently, in 2022, Fisher was back on the sidelines as the head coach and general manager for the USFL's Michigan Panthers.
It's an exciting yet challenging time for the Arena Football League. With Jeff Fisher's extensive experience and deep ties to the sport, fans are hopeful he can steer the league towards a more stable and successful future.
