Pitching Peril: Orioles Lose Aces Means and Wells to Season-Ending Surgeries

Written by Published

Man, last week when John Means left his start with elbow trouble, everyone feared the worst. I mean, this dude's been the Orioles' main man, especially through all the rebuilding. He went through Tommy John surgery, fought back, and just when it seemed like he was back in the game, bam, elbow issues again.

But it's not just Means. Tyler Wells, another ace on the mound, is facing the same deal. Both of them are going under the knife in June to fix up their throwing elbows. It's a bummer for the team, for them, for everybody really. Mike Elias, the big guy in charge, broke the news before the Orioles' game against Tampa Bay.

They're talking surgeries, but nothing's set in stone yet. Could be Tommy John again, which means a long road to recovery. Or maybe this new thing with the internal brace, who knows? Elias says they'll figure it out closer to the time.

Means came back strong after his first Tommy John, but then his elbow acted up again. Man, tough break. And Wells, poor guy, had elbow inflammation after just three games this season. They thought he'd bounce back quick, but here we are.

Means was on fire this season, pitching like his old self. The guy even threw a no-hitter last year! And Wells, he's been a solid part of the team since they picked him up. But now, with both of them out, it's a tough blow for the O's. Cole Irvin's stepping up to fill the gap, and Albert Suárez is getting his shot too.

Guess we'll have to hang tight and see how the rotation holds up without these two heavy hitters.
