Houston Resident Wins $5 Million on $100 Texas Lottery Scratch-Off Ticket

A Houston resident is celebrating a $5 million lottery win after purchasing a $100 scratch-off ticket at a convenience store in the city's Uptown area.

The winning ticket came from the Texas Lottery's $5 Million Titanium Black game. Tickets sell for $100 each, with prizes starting at $150. The game offers more than $448.6 million in total prizes, and the odds of winning any prize are better than 1 in 4.

The lucky ticket was purchased at Super K convenience store on San Felipe Street. The winner has chosen to remain anonymous, according to lottery officials.

This was the second $5 million top prize claimed out of the four available in the Titanium Black game. The store could also receive a $10,000 bonus through the Texas Lottery's Retailer Bonus Program for selling the winning ticket.

Store manager Guru Redey said he was excited to hear that another major prize had been won at his location. Super K previously sold a $5 million winning ticket around five or six years ago, helping build its reputation as a lucky spot for lottery players.

Redey recalled that a regular customer purchased the winning ticket during the weekend of October 24. After scratching the tickets in his car, the customer returned to the store, shook his hand, and thanked him for selling the winning ticket.

However, Redey didn't realize the customer had won the full $5 million until other customers told him several days later.

The store attracts lottery players from across the Houston region, including Katy and Pasadena. Some customers even travel much farther in hopes of landing a big prize. One visitor recently drove all the way from Horseshoe Bay in the Texas Hill Country to purchase lottery tickets.

"I'm glad someone from here and someone I knew won the jackpot," Redey said.

He added that seeing customers win is one of the best parts of the job, especially because many loyal customers have been visiting the store for years.
