Louisiana Opens Applications for 2026-27 Deer and Waterfowl Lottery Hunts
Louisiana hunters have a chance to land a spot on select state-managed wildlife areas during the 2026-27 hunting season. The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) is now accepting applications for deer and waterfowl lottery hunts.
Hunters should keep an eye on these deadlines:
- Deer lottery hunts: Apply by August 31
- Waterfowl lottery hunts: Apply by September 30
- Application fee: $5, plus a $3.50 transaction fee
LDWF will hold a general waterfowl lottery hunt at Sherburne Wildlife Management Area, along with youth deer and waterfowl hunts at select WMAs. These youth opportunities are available to hunters ages 10 to 17. Children under 10 can also apply if they will turn 10 by the date of the hunt they are entering.
All applications must be completed online through LDWF's electronic system. Paper applications will not be accepted. Before applying, hunters need to create or update their customer information, similar to the process used when purchasing a hunting or fishing license.
The lottery program gives selected hunters access to special hunting opportunities on state-managed properties. Hunt dates, eligibility rules and other requirements vary by lottery, so applicants should carefully review the instructions for each hunt.
Anyone visiting Louisiana WMAs, refuges or conservation areas must also have the required access credentials, such as a WMA Access Permit, Senior Hunting/Fishing License, Louisiana Sportsman's Paradise License or Lifetime Hunting/Fishing License.
Hunters can find applications and more details through the LDWF lottery hunt information page. For questions, contact LDWF's David Hayden at 318-487-5353 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
