A quick decision to turn around changed everything for a Charles County electrician.
He was leaving a Wawa in Suitland with his lunch in hand when one thought kept bothering him: Go back.
He had already purchased his Pick 5 tickets earlier that morning. He was hungry, his lunch was getting cold, and he needed to return to a job site. Still, he couldn’t shake the feeling that he had forgotten something.
One favorite number combination hadn’t been played.
So, right in the middle of the parking lot, he turned around.
The longtime Lottery player went back and played 2-6-2-7-4, a combination made from family birthdays that he had used before.
That small decision turned out to be worth $50,000!
He didn't discover his big win until later that night. While checking the Pick 5 results, he noticed the first two numbers matched.
Then the third matched.
Then the fourth.
With just one number left, he covered it with his hand and made a quick wish:
“Please be a 4.”
It was.
He had matched all five numbers, turning a last-minute trip back to Wawa into a five-figure payday.
The winning ticket was purchased at the Wawa located at 6101 Allentown Road in Suitland, and the store will receive a $500 bonus for selling the lucky ticket.
There was just one problem—the win came too late for a big celebration.
“It was so late that I couldn’t celebrate,” he said. “I didn’t want to wake everybody up.”
Still, he got something else he had gone back for.
His lunch. Eventually.
