New Jersey Couple Defies Odds with Two Million-Dollar Lottery Wins in One Year

Talk about a wild streak of luck — a New Jersey couple has managed to pull off not one, but two massive lottery wins in the same year. And no, this isn’t the plot of a feel-good movie.

What makes their story even more fun is how it all started: a friendly at-home competition. With two little ones (and another baby on the way), date nights aren’t exactly easy, so the couple grabs scratch-offs at the start of each month and turns it into a game.
• “Who can win the most?”
• “Do we at least break even?”
• Apparently… they do a lot more than that.

Their newest win — a $3 million Jackpot Millions scratch-off — came from an Exxon station in Fischer Bay, the same place they’ve grabbed tickets before. The husband said he didn’t even finish scratching before he realized something huge was happening. He handed the ticket to his wife, who immediately clutched it to her chest and screamed.

That victory comes less than six months after their $1 million Ultimate Spectacular win. And just to put those odds in perspective: New Jersey lottery officials say the chances of scoring two million-dollar wins in under a year is 1 in 2 trillion. They also noted you’re over a million times more likely to be hit by a meteorite than to pull off what this couple did.

Lottery Director James Carey summed it up best: “Pure, blind luck.”

With three kids to support — including two under a year old — the couple says every cent will go toward securing their growing family’s future.
