A northern Michigan man may have missed out on the Powerball jackpot, but he still walked away with an impressive $1 million prize.

Charles Hilger Jr., 66, of Millersburg, matched all five white balls — 03, 04, 24, 36 and 47 — in the July 25 Powerball drawing. He purchased the winning ticket at Basel Oil in Rogers City and recently headed to Michigan Lottery headquarters to claim his prize.

His winning ticket

  • Prize: $1 million
  • Drawing: July 25
  • Winning numbers: 03-04-24-36-47
  • Retailer: Basel Oil in Rogers City

Hilger wasn't the only player chasing a huge Powerball prize. A ticket sold in Illinois recently matched the numbers needed to win an estimated $1.04 billion jackpot, although the winner has not yet claimed the massive prize.

Powerball tickets cost $2 per play and are available at lottery retailers throughout Michigan and online. Players can add Power Play for $1, which can boost non-jackpot prizes by up to 10 times, with prizes reaching as high as $2 million.

Another option is Double Play, which costs an extra $1 and gives players another shot at winning up to $10 million in a separate nightly drawing.

Powerball drawings are held every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 10:59 p.m.
