A 23-year-old man from Moncks Corner, South Carolina, has been charged with lottery fraud after allegedly stealing scratch-off tickets from two gas stations and redeeming some of them for cash.
The South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) announced the charges Tuesday against Connor Garrison Anderson, who faces two counts of attempting to influence a game through coercion, tampering, or deception.
According to arrest warrants, the alleged incidents happened during the week of September 14. Anderson reportedly visited a 7-Eleven on North Goose Creek Boulevard twice and stopped at The Spinx on Highway 52 in Moncks Corner on two other occasions.
Investigators allege that Anderson tricked store employees into leaving the sales counter to attend to restroom-related matters. While the workers were away, he allegedly stole scratch-off lottery tickets from both locations.
Authorities say the alleged theft involved:
- 8 scratch-off tickets from the 7-Eleven store.
- 27 scratch-off tickets from The Spinx.
The tickets were reportedly scanned using the South Carolina Education Lottery Players Club app. Six tickets were later redeemed at different locations, bringing in a total of $165 in winnings.
Anderson was arrested Thursday and taken to the Hill-Finklea Detention Center. He was released later that day on a personal recognizance bond.
The charges are allegations, and Anderson is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
