At CinemaCon, Paramount Pictures gave us a sneak peek at Transformers One, the first animated Transformers movie in 40 years. The trailer and an extended 3D scene were exclusively shown to attendees. The film, directed by Josh Cooley, was introduced by Scarlett Johansson in a video greeting, followed by Chris Hemsworth and Brian Tyree Henry taking the stage. Hemsworth, who voices a young Optimus Prime, expressed excitement about revealing a new side of the character.
Transformers One explores the origin story of iconic characters Orion Pax and D-16, who later become Optimus Prime and Megatron, respectively. Hemsworth's Orion Pax, Henry's D-16, Johansson's Elita-1, and Keegan-Michael Key's proto-Bumblebee (then B-127) lead the voice cast, with Steve Buscemi, Laurence Fishburne, and Jon Hamm also lending their voices.
Unlike typical animated films, Transformers One's style is more digital and steely, fitting for its Cybertron setting. The extended 3D scene shows the young 'bots sneaking aboard a train bound for the surface world, with vibrant visuals as Cybertron transforms around them.
The film's tone is notably youthful, comedic, and family-friendly, with the characters' banter reminiscent of the Ninja Turtles. This light-hearted approach adds a fresh twist to the Transformers universe. Transformers One hits theaters on September 13.
